Scheduling experiments for campaigns

Selecting an experiment template, scheduling, and targeting a visitor segment

Written by Jonathan Denney

Experiments are high-priority campaigns that can display at all times or within a given timeframe.

Experiments help you streamline your conversion marketing workflow by launching a single or multiple standalone campaigns together that achieve the same goal, as well as help you schedule campaigns that take priority on your website.

Let's say we want to show a cyber promotion only this week. ConvertFlow's experiments allow us to launch a top-priority campaign that takes precedence over our website's standalone campaigns.

How to create an experiment

First, in your website's navigation, click "Experiments". Here you'll find all your website's experiments. Click "New+" to create a new experiment:

Scheduling the experiment

We don't want this experiment to show indefinitely, so let's give our BFCM experiment a timeframe to display during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday dates:

Add campaigns for the experiment to deliver

Next, we can add any of our website's campaigns to the experiment.

It's possible to experiment with a single campaign using the "holdout" feature to split the viewer percentage between an active campaign and an empty option. Just make sure delivery mode is set to "Rotate campaigns" and the traffic percentage doesn't add up to 100%:

When testing multiple campaigns, each campaign added to the experiment can have a traffic percentage allocated to it. By choosing the "delivery mode", you can control whether campaigns can overlap, or if campaigns are rotated based on their allocated traffic percentage:

Configure the experiment's targeting conditions

After that, we can add targeting conditions to determine which visitor segments see the experiment's campaigns:

Activate the experiment

Once we're done adding targeting conditions, we need to activate the experiment by enabling the toggle, and it'll start displaying the BFCM campaigns during the set timeframe.

As you can see, the experiments tool helped me launch a time-sensitive, high-priority campaign without having to revisit the targeting of all the standalone campaigns I've launched on my website:

Reporting on an experiment's results

With the experiment launched, click on the "Reports" option, and we can now see how our experiment is performing:
